About Me

Like many people I have always had a soft spot for dogs. I grew up with one as a child, every time I went on holiday or the family moved somewhere new I seemed to bring home a four legged friend and the love I felt for these animals stayed with me. A few years ago I decided I wanted to work in a more positive environment that was not driven by commercial demands.  I began working  with the dog re-homing team of the Reading branch of the RSPCA and began a course in Canine Psychology with the Animal Care College.

I really enjoyed my work as a Foster Carer and gained a lot of experience in dealing with problematic canine behaviours. As time went by I decided to set up The Dogwatcher to help owners in all aspects of managing their dog’s behaviour, using a positive and reward based approach.

My Pack

Boudica is a pedigree Labrador I have had from a puppy and Maisy is a Cockerpoo that was surrendered to the Reading Branch of the RSPCA and joined us at 5 months of age. As we all got to know Maisy it became clear that she was the right energy for Boudica that I was looking for and they have become ‘sisters’. In her canine social circle Boudica is affectionately known as a social worker because of her friendly disposition and ready acceptance of all the foster dogs that have stayed in our home. Maisy is a Terrier in a Cockapoo’s clothing and is still a "work in progress" but her "drama Queen" ways give us plenty of laughs and the pair of them provide much entertainment!.

My Experience

As a Volunteer for the RSPCA Reading with Oxon Border branch I regularly have dogs in my care who have been brought in by the Inspectorate or who have been surrendered to our branch.  Thus far I have had 11 different breeds through my door and assisted in the rehabilitation of many others who are being cared for by fellow volunteers.  I have worked in a professional capacity for the RSPCA and Labrador Rescue.

My Qualifications

I am currently studying Advanced Canine Psychology with the Animal Care College and have to date maintained an accredited standard in Introduction to Canine Psychology, Intermediate Canine Psychology and Canine First Aid.  I have a 2nd class degree in human Psychology from Brunel University and this has proved to be an invaluable asset when working with clients.  I am very interested in the field of canine massage and the power of touch when working with dogs.
